# It’s oh so quiet…
It’s oh so still…
You’re all alone…
And so peaceful until… # (Björk)
It seems so long since I’ve written anything. I *have* been working on this site, but it’s all been background/server based rather than the writing of new content.
So what’s new? As the more observant of you will have noticed the site is now back on its original URI of rachaelbond.com. I primarily decided to re-move everything for SEO purposes, but it also allows rlb.me to be now used exclusively for url shortening. All of the old links and addresses from rlb.me still work, however, and form a 301 redirect.
Less obviously, the site now responds for more quickly than it has ever done. This is, in part, due to the wonderful W3 Edge caching plugin for WordPress which can found here and the implementation of a CDN (“content distribution network”) for static data through Amazon CloudFront. Along with javascript optimisations, this means that the site now loads in around 4-7 seconds in Europe and the USA and 9-11 seconds in South America, the Far East and Australia (tested on the equivalent of a 1.5 meg connection at webpagetest.org). This represents a speed increase of around 4 seconds in the UK and 8-10 seconds in Australia. Page re-loads are completed in less than 3 seconds.
There is also a new on-line chat facility which connects to me when I’m available (all awkward Linux and Psychology questions welcome
).
In the mean time, thank you so much to everyone for visiting and helping to keep this in the top 500,000 sites worldwide according to the Alexa rankings.
